About us

Named for the simplest truth
about communication: it takes two.

A duet only works when both voices listen to each other. One leads, the other answers, and the music happens in between. That is how communication works, and it is how we work: alongside you, listening first, then building together.

Duet is based in Carlton, Melbourne. We see clients by video wherever they are, and visit childcare centres and schools depending on location.

What we believe

Four things we will not budge on.

  • You set the pace

We do not push anyone through a target because a plan says it is time. If a goal needs more time, it gets more time.

  • You are the therapist too

Sessions are a small part of the week. Our real job is making the rest of it count, which is why you leave every session with strategies that fit your daily routine.

  • Engagement is the method, not the sweetener

Repetition is the active ingredient, and nobody repeats a sound sixty times unless they are engaged. So we build sessions around what actually interests you.

  • We say when we are done

The goal is discharge. When you no longer need us we will say so, rather than keep billing you out of habit.

Creator of Duet

Meet the founder.

  • Usha Elete

    Director and Senior Speech Pathologist

Usha came to speech pathology from the classroom, after four years in early education and five years as a primary school teacher. Alongside teaching, Usha worked as an EAL/D specialist, supporting students learning English as an additional language or dialect.

Those years showed, again and again, how much communication shapes learning, friendships and confidence. That is what led Usha to speech pathology, and it still shapes the work today: practical, patient, and built around how each person actually learns.

Usha founded Duet to offer consistent, personalised therapy for people of all ages, with the same therapist from the first conversation onwards.

    • Certified Practising Member of Speech Pathology Australia (CPSP)

Does telehealth actually work?

Better than most people expect, and the research agrees: for many speech and language goals, telehealth outcomes match in-person ones. Part of the reason is that the practice happens where you actually live, in your own space, with your own routines, while the therapist coaches.

There are exceptions. Some assessments and some people do better in person. Based on the information you share, we will tell you whether online sessions are a good fit.
