Five things we work on.
Most people arrive knowing what they have noticed rather than what it is called. Find the one that sounds closest — if none of them quite fit, that is worth a phone call on its own.
Language and Literacy
What you might be noticing
- Fewer words, or shorter sentences, than you would expect
- Trouble finding the right word, or following conversations and instructions
- Reading, writing or spelling that holds you back at school or work
- Retelling events out of order, or losing the thread
What we actually do
We work with children, teenagers and adults. For young children, language work happens in play. For older clients and adults, we focus on vocabulary, understanding, and getting ideas across clearly in everyday life, study and work. Where reading, writing or spelling are the problem, we use structured literacy, narrative and vocabulary work, whatever your age.
Speech Sound
What you might be noticing
- Sounds left off the ends of words, or swapped for easier ones
- People outside the family asking you to translate
- Frustration, or going quiet, when they are not understood
What we actually do
Targeted speech sound therapy: we work out which patterns are having the most impact on intelligibility and go after those first. You learn the practice moves and we coach you through them, adjusting as the sounds come in.
Stutter and Fluency
What you might be noticing
- Getting stuck on the first sound, or repeating whole words
- Blocks where nothing comes out, sometimes with visible effort
- Starting to avoid words, or avoid speaking altogether
What we actually do
Stuttering treatment with the evidence behind it, including the Lidcombe and Westmead programs where they fit. We work on both fluency and the avoidance that can grow around it. You lead the daily practice; we coach and adjust every session.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
What you might be noticing
- Little or no speech, and no reliable way to be understood
- Speech that comes and goes depending on the day or the setting
- A device or board that was set up once and never really took
What we actually do
We find a way to communicate that works now rather than waiting for speech to arrive — signs, boards, or a speech-generating device, matched to what you can actually use. We set it up with the people around you, because AAC only works if everyone answers it. Using AAC does not slow speech down; the evidence is that it helps.
Still not sure?
That is genuinely the most common reason people call. 10 minutes usually settles it.
